The debris is not shiftable, in fact you get a handful of splinters while trying. Lame.

Most of the cracks are a little too small or located in places that you can’t quite get to, but eventually you’re able to make out what looks like the big, bright outdoor world. And it smells like the outdoors too, maybe a little like… pine trees?

To your left, the hallway extends. There is a great deal of less light this way. There are a few more closed doors and what looks like an entry way to another room, hallway, or staircase at the end.

You decide it officially looks creepy as balls.

You also have the sinking feeling that you’re going to end up going this way.

Anything you need to do before you leave this area?

You carefully look out into the hall, to the right of the door where you heard the footsteps fade. Much to your surprise, the hallway here is collapsed. You’re not sure if anything could have gotten through there, no less something of the size of… whatever that was, and you didn’t hear any doors open or closed.

Light flickers out of a few of the top cracks and holes. It appears to be daytime outside.

You try to be courageous and shove your face in, but really you just kind of… tentatively stick it in there. Through the eye-holes you see another room, about the size of this one but empty save for a large key on the floor and the words LET US KNOW YOU’RE THERE written in charcoal.

You put in the key, and it indeed fits like a glove. Or… just fits like a key should into a lock. The iron door creeeeaks open to reveal- a safe full of nothing? In the back there are two eye-holes and there’s a note taped in the front that says, “PUT YOUR FACE IN.”

Well hotdiggitydog, there was a safe behind the moveable bookshelf.

It’s iron, about a foot and a half wide, has intricate designs on it, and looks like your key will fit.

Also your face really smarts now, but you’re pretty sure nothing’s permanently damaged.

You pocket the key, and climb up on the bookshelf just under the vent. Almost immediately it starts to wobble, you had forgotten that this is the shelf that seemed like you could easily move it, but you’ve almost got the vent open. You just need to move it a little more to the-
